- I have found the Nier family in Preble county in 1850 Monroe twp, Clinton cty Indiana, Kirklin twp in 1860, and in 1870, Warren co, Ottertail twp Iowa. F ought in the Civil war with the 8th calvary for the state of Indiana. Moved t o a farm in Iowa in 1866. Lived in Kirklin township Clinton County Indiana in 1860. John and Sarah Nier lived in the same place in 1840 and 1850, and 1860 , they lived two houses down Williams parents. John`s parents are Jacob an d Catherine from Pickaway county Ohio jacob came to Ohio in 1816 from Pa.Will iam is oldest child of John Nier and Mary loucks. William and Nancy died of Black small pox according to his grandaughter Alice Nier.
