Have Early History and Background of Altalaha Evangelical Lutheran Church in notebook with Gebhart and Manbeck
In 1723, German Palatine refugees that were sent to NY by Queen Anne of England were invited to settle in PA. They settled in the region of Tulpehocken and Swatara Creeks. In 1727, additional settlers came from Wurtemberg, Dormstadt and that general area of Germany. In 1729 another group came from Schoharie County by way of the Susquehanna River and then overland to Tulpehocken Creek.
Although 1757 is generally accepted as the year during which the Altalaha congregation was established, there is evidence that a congregation existed here perhaps as much as 25 years earlier.
As early as 1746, Pastor J. Casper Stoever’s baptisms , performed in “Atolhoe,” as he spelled it, are recorded. His records include 41 marriages and 106 baptisms from 1746-1757.
Pastor Stoever left this area in 1757 and the pastor of Christ Tulpehocken Chruch took over - John Nicholas Kurtz.
The official founding of this town of Rehrersburg was not until 1801 by Jacob Roehrer.

Altalaha Evangelical Lutheran Church has Zieglers as one of the founding familes.
Phillipp Ziegler listed as father of Johann Paul b. 28 May, 1765 bp. 3rd Christmas Day (27 December 1765)

Rudolph and Christina are sponsors to Mary Catherine, daugter of Thomas and Christina Dietzler in 1790 - Altahala Lutheran Church, Berks Co., PA.

Rudolph and Christina are sponsors to John Manbeck, son of John and Eva Manbeck,
August 1791. Not sure who John Manbeck is.
